THEY HAVE THE MEKONG
They have the Mekong
We have the Mississippi
Imagine a super power above us
Bombing, defoliating, de-foresting, killing
Every living thing
In an effort to stop the war
That our government funds
We would probably raise the old argument –
Taxation without representation –
Why bomb us
If you are not directly involved?
The Chinese left after a thousand years
The French left after a hundred.
Mongols from the north . . .
All fled the Delta
Down in Viet Nam
Where everything grows
Including fierce independence –
Now a thriving state
While our blowhards in Congress
And the ghost in the beige house
Mouth speeches written by committee
And then answer no questions
From the Penitentiary Press
Held captive in a room
With a camera recording their consent
To being ruled by buffoons
Not quite qualified
For the baboon exhibit at the zoo
And yet spend they do
Exorbitant fruits and nuts and military soup
For the primates in suits 211202.1
