Right out of the headwind

It comes at you.

Out of the headwind

As you travel west

Toward an emblazoned horizon

Beyond the far reaches

Of this California Coast –

Your history has somehow circled earth –

            Thought it was in the past –

            Conceived narratives to explain the void 

            Vacant hours spent in self-reflection –

            Until pushed out into society

            The monk runs an investment fund

       Recommending calm, long-term companies

            Content with some assets at risk

            Yet not greedy for the highest return.

And back to the beach

To the floating run

Low tide, the sun descending slowly

As though afternoon could last forever

And dusk was infinity

As we spin off into our individual mortality

            The past catching up

            Just over the shoulder

            Sending forward its messengers –

            Memories solid and true

            What really happened

            Without elaboration or explanation.

            Just all the results –

            The lives affected

            The souls lifted

            Society benefitted.
