Reliving 70’s rhetoric

Following revolutions against colonial nations

Throughout the Americas

England, France, Spain

Even little European countries like Portugal

Thought they could own another land and people

Utilize, control, enslave, manipulate

In every conceivable way –

Think Catholic Church and others

Indoctrinating their minds

Obliterating native cultures –

Today, 21st Century Americans

Look back and see it all and shudder

At the extent of the greed and violence.

            And when the blame is fully allocated

            We sit back and bask in our purity

            Sure that humanity has evolved

            And such base instincts

            Have been leached from this mortal coil.

            Underneath the mansions

            Lurks the elephant of nuclear weapons

As if the reality we live

Allows us to ignore the spreading web

Enveloping all nations

With technology in control –

The public insulated

From all knowledge of threats

By government control of media

            Rise from your sleepless slumber

            We may be the last generation

            To live in an age of plenty & Peace –

            The U.S. keeping

the stew from boiling over.

            Peace through strength, so far
