NO LONGER CINEMA
Once again
The moon decided to race across the sky Leaving a vapor trail
Of lost ambition
No longer satisfied with monetary compensation Seeking ever higher rewards –
Commendations, dedications, honorariums – Yet few materialized
And of those fewer still remained
After the glow was gone
And the crescent had taken over
From the once full lunar face
She encountered me at midnight On a mutual hike across the city From the gate to the ferry building Where we sat looking west Through the Golden Passage
A setting orb of cool white
Descending into the Pacific
Her face flushed with emotion Memories of memories suddenly vacant And all that remains
Is the present
Her hand, her cheek, eyes glowing Tomorrow we wake up in another tour Perhaps the Louvre in Central Park
Or a nocturnal ambling in Florence – Anywhere we go will be fulfilling!
She sighs, yes.
The movie camera whirrs
We are released –
No longer cinema
