WHEN YOU THINK
When you think
Someone else owes you something
You find out pretty quick
Human nature doesn’t work that way
The other has his own ideas
Or she sees it another way
Or they don’t agree
And there you are, waiting, impatiently
Instead, check the box
That signifies you agree
With the stipulation
That each person views themselves righteously
Not subject to other’s claims
Of any form of malfeasance
Just an honorable sort
A gem, a Mensch, a family man
Behind the scenes
A suave dealer in misdeeds
Whatever the racket
He was into it
And then the waterfall
And the raft kept drifting
Toward the rim
To a hundred foot drop
And a stream below
He looked up and gave up
All his penchant for wealth
And put in its place
A sense of compassion for all
As he realized the fall is ahead
No matter the bank account
