WE WAKE UP
We wake up
And they are gone.
Left here we carry on
Un-saddened by the departure
We remember the joy, the beauty –
The perfect symmetry.
Lips parted, about to speak.
We waited, impatient with glee
There was a story to be told
And in her voice
We were transported
To a place in time
Where we all existed
Suspended above the narrative
Where she took us with the story
And the people and the outcome
Which led to her view –
Her moral take, if you will.
And we accepted it
Because we loved her
And any story she would tell
We were already there
Life passes quick.
You can say it
But it doesn’t change
Just because you understand,
Doesn’t mean you are exempt.
So the lucky man
Who was ever me
Talks in logical sequence
Even as he is superseded
By the next generation of seers
