VIRTUAL AGE CHILDREN

Virtual age children

Growing up all around us

Back on the streets occasionally

After three years sequestered

Isolated from coping with bodies

Each with a set of eyes and a mouth

But now a body as well

Asserting dominance

No longer able to be clicked off

Ignored and ghosted

Here they come, a generation on line

            Phone addicts

            Needing the feedback, the likes

All the empty emotion of an emoji

            Able to be selected

            To express feelings

With no voice to make it real

No eyes or expression of a real face.

            So discarded –

At a base level – phony.

On to the “conversation” –

The text

Composed, edited, considered, then . . . sent.

So no immediacy –

No voice

So a millennia of evolved senses

Able to read intent from tiny variations

Now negated –

As though communication

Was reduced to a computer

Writing to another computer

Based on history and a word or two

To set the bot on its way
