THESE THINGS FADE
These things fade
Perfect cars
Stately homes
Features fine and youthful
Strength unbounded
Speed at the call
Up to full speed
Beach at low tide
Experiential empathy
Feeling back to who it was
Those atoms long gone
Memories impressed on new cells
From those which lingered
Long enough to tell of the magic
Flowers, your voice, soft breeze
You were there truly
I remember
Yet with no one left
Who remembers with me
That youth has left with wolves
Beckoning mercilessly at night
By dawn gone twenty miles
Dawn on the backside of Tam
Redwood Creek
Curving through my spine
As in your arms again
I see myself at twenty
Free of all ill will
Free of wisdom from the trail
Omniscient insight
Into my own sense of self
That now like all of my selves
Has departed
