THEN IT OCCURRED
Then it occurred
Sailed across stolen moonlight
Not mine, but I ride it
Toward a better view
Perhaps an overlook
Or a deeper look
At reality as we pass
Our souls everlasting
Bodies breaking
Hearts aching, then it swells
You feel love and its passing
One lifts you high
The other an abyss
Both inseparable
From our shared condition
Leaving each with a burden
Else, what is life?
It is a process of organic chemistry
Ending uniformly
Birth, growth, stasis for a moment
On to decline and cessation
We watch, we feel
But we don’t want it
We push it off
Ignore it as much as possible
A lifetime of optimistic denial
I feel youth, middle and old
All at the same time
Deny all the world
For that sunshine
Accept it when it comes
