THE ONE WE CALL
Ride to the edge of the rim
Professing neither wisdom or fame
Unknown to everyone
Save the patient and the spouse
Who lived joint lives
Not accounts
Who shared everything in the final
As though merged humans
Facing denial
By a beneficent God
Who sees through all veils
Presented and withdrawn by the egotistical man
Who envisions youth as a unique trait
Immutable, a veritable Greek God
But their imaginations were stifled
While yours are not
She lies astride your thigh
Warming to the notion
Who could it be who denies emotion
When it comes to sheer delight
So it is you, Dear Friend
Who encompasses
all of the un-forgiven
You, the one girl who escaped
You, the singular beauty of this life
Who kissed me a thousand times a year
Who rose in beauty
Part of the morning atmosphere
And yet, when gone, some cloud, some Heaven
Looking down at the man
You should have some mercy
It is all we have to give as men
Our lives, our love, all our strength
To you, the one we call wife 190207.1
