SOMETHING WORTHWHILE
There was a lot of bragging
Along the way
Brilliant, handsome, charming
And all the run-on syllables
That have no metrics
Except the richness of ego
Able to absorb the words
But not their intent
Which is often to disarm –
To position for an attack.
The human – ever so clever
Can position others
With perfect equanimity
So lost in self as to be blind to reality
That says, “Here we are.” –
All the others who share this earth –
All of us temporary
Seeking something that lasts
Beyond these fragile bodies
Prone to disaster
Given to excess and decay
But determined to find something worthwhile
While on this earth –
Even though temporarily
Could be a song
Or a mathematical theory.
Could be a baby
Cared for lovingly.
Could be a million readers
Who found something.
Could be total humility
Or a benevolent ego. 230707.1
