A SOFT RUMBLE
A soft rumble
Came from the other side of the universe –
All the analysts hard at work –
Was it a sign of an earthquake
Or maybe a volcano threatening
Or a very loud rock band unleashed –
But they never arrived at a logical explanation
So opinions were left to fill the void
Some thought it was a nuke
While others conjectured it was a war
Others heard the voice of God
And yet some proclaimed it was a meteor
So the media disseminated it all –
Unwilling to edit or omit
And the world they reached panicked
Selling stock and building shelters
To hide from radioactive ghosts
Who had been seen
Hovering above crime scenes
Waiting perhaps to claim a soul
Before the body is cold.
The long range missiles are never sent –
Just the “tactical weapons”
If there is such a thing –
And the weight of expectations
Brings down economies
Except for the biggest of the big
And they partner with congressional refugees
In the deepest salt mines
To plan out a non-existent future
As far as the humans above can see
