And when all that is overseen

A carrot dropped

The hook set

A brief advantage –

Right there in the tax code –

They get all the accountants

And all the tax lawyers

To nod and give approval

So the money gets reported separately

And subject to mandatory withdrawals

Giving the government –

Congress, that is, and their Lancelots –

The IRS, to stab you repetitively

Until you bleed out –

A former human –

Once earned a living

Ran a business

Raised two kids

Spoke to the Lord each evening

As the sun settled in the west

And left me alone

Except for the love –

All the perfect love –

That caressed me noon to night

And back again

Like an absorbent Tom Cat

Willing to have his forehead stroked

If the stroker was both

Beautiful and kind

With soft all-encompassing eyes
