SO THIS IS WHAT YOU SEE

So this is what you see

When the rusted red tug

Has departed for the first time in 40 years

An open bay across to Belvedere

Strawberry and the Tiburon Peninsula

         Shipping channel open to see

End of the Dock of the Bay

         Is now as Otis sang

         While the times are irretrievable

         Just like our memories

Our lies, our loves, our children

         Irretrievable

         Leaving us to say

         “It is what it is”

         The non-profound profundity

         Meaning, “I can’t change it”

         Recognition of our limits

         Individuals seeming powerless to change

Their lives on a path not of their choosing

Finding the only thing that you can change

Is your frame of mind

What wise ones call acceptance

Recognizing that all material things change

Subject to conditions

Beings born, decay, die.

What is left, if anything?

That may depend on your mind

Your thoughts and beliefs

Designing your life experience

For its entirety

You may see life after death

As an opportunity to enter Heaven

Or you may see something else
