PUT OUT MY HAND
Put out my hand
Held it up for all to see
This was a man
He tried, he succeeded.
That is what we want to think
Deep and full, confident in the chase.
We grow up naive
Unaware of the competition
But they are everywhere
Squirming under every rock and camera
Posing, as if Fellini models
Pouting faces and exuberant bodies
Bursting at the conquest
Ready to participate in the circus
We want clarity
So we devise costumes and disguises
We seek money and security
So we spend it
We seek purity of body and mind
So we dive into dive after dive
Expecting an honorarium or two
For attending cross-cultural education sessions
And then we find out
It was all a ruse –
There was no contest
There was no fair competition –
You get your bit of joy
It paralyzes your motivation
For anything else
So you spend the duration
Pursuing a fiction
But unlike our politicians
You didn’t write the script to exploit the situation . 220619.2
