PURE EMPATHY

Emotion reaches a high pitch

Logic is ever low

Breaking down the reasons

While the heart never goes slow

Knowing its end

The mind believes its dreams

Running full speed into roadblocks

And elevating each time

Until you believe you can do anything

And so you do

But the choices are endless

And often meaningless

And so you watch, carefully

         With kind attendance

         To the fact of brevity

         Of the individual and

        respective thought and action

         It becomes obvious and imperative

         To leave a positive statement

         Both words and actions

         Supportive of the next generation

         Seeing the similarity of challenges

         And offering pure empathy

You live it out

And you hit a year

And it tells you

You’ve really come far

         What did you leave?

         The question lurks.

         Every face, every child

         Who did you leave?

And if you answer – “no one.”

Well, you have done well indeed.
