PIERCING ZEN

No promises

No afterlife

No ethereal Heaven

            For the good monk

The chosen, the Pope, cardinals and preachers

No forty virgins waiting for a monk

            No matter the earthy sacrifice

Austere, severe

No excuses or forgiveness

No eternal paradise

            Until all sentient beings

            Become enlightened.

Alone in the journey to realization

Solitary non meditation

Just sitting

            Waiting for the moments

            Connections waffle through

            Permeating memory and future considerations

            Just waiting

            And when they come

            Letting them go

            Because . . .

            Trying to hold

            Means not understanding the meaning

            Of connectedness with all

            Things and beings

Moments of absolute grandeur

That can take decades to appear

For some perhaps a short while

            But they do appear

            As they pierce the substratum

            Of separation and suffering.
