A PIECE OF SILVER
Once, only power and force
Then organization and deployment
Strategy and coalitions
The printed word
Ideas of organizational completeness –
Everything centrally directed
Each person accounted for –
And thus accountable to the rest –
And yet it never flew –
This Marx guy, so clever –
Just listen to me, he said
And everything will be grand –
No poverty, just harmony –
Even distribution of economic wealth –
Means you must account
For each individuals assets
Right down to his Stratocaster
And sneaker collection and necklaces –
Gold and pewter . . .
Come on – fess up – isn’t that 24K gold
That you wear so copiously?
Give up your freedom
Means to give up your humanity –
At risk now
Control by corporate governance
A bureaucracy of centralists
All face east . . .
Listen to D.C. nonsense
They come to confiscate your time
Meaning you will work
For the IRS and state and city
With a piece of silver left over
For your years on the job
