OUTRUN AGE
With whatever grace you have left
After the hurtful encounters
With this other side of life
Where the outcomes are not chosen
Where fate is not your friend
And where your efforts to mend
Can go unanswered
Draining joy and exuberance
As the chemicals decay
And on with life goes the pilgrim.
Once such a noble duty
Now no co-pilot
You steer and navigate on the fly
As meteors glance off knees and hips.
As proton bombardment ensues
With the shield down
To get some feeling back
Into the body that once flew
That could leap mental hurdles.
Could outrun age.
Accelerating to the point of no friction
Inertia sending the body forward
No gravity kicks in
It seems it will last forever
And then miracles cease
Happy smiles somehow concealed
A mask of calm
A slight wry grin
Waiting for another sun to rise
And with hope for life
Those closest and bound to for life
Become solace and
purpose at the same time 181030.1
