LOVE IS SPIRIT
You look out into the world
And decide whether to participate
You move reluctantly forward
There is great unrest inside
Wondering why it seems so unfair
That the fairest one among us
Is ushered to the house of rain and futility
A roof leaking
A foundation creaking
No real sustenance beyond appearance
And thus I am left on the street
Will stand an hour or two
Gazing at the passing girls
Sweet and sound and long-limbed
One passes and as she walks she sings
And I am brought singularly
To my knees
Well, figuratively
In that I realize that a woman who sings
Is beyond what comes in size 3
No heart in the skinny chest
No strength in the conquest
Who cares for the prize
If it is average in disguise
Thinking she is going to fool
The mysterious traveler
With the golden tool
Which opens hearts and minds
Because there is nothing disguised
We lived and loved through it all
From birth to fear of death to beyond
And, as has been learned, love is spirit
