JUST A HIGH RISE
You seek to point a finger
Find a fatal fault
Could be the mythic image
America, waves of grain
Victors in World Wars
Presiding over a United Nations –
Just a high rise
On the upper East Side
A paragon of virtue
To themselves as member states
Enjoying the privileges of the elite
In Manhattan social life
While exuding shame on the host country
Which makes room for all their pomposity
While funding a quasi world war
In Ukraine and Russia
With spillover a possibility
And Taiwan at China’s mercy
As it has long been –
Allowing it to suck up western capital
And technological know-how –
To be usurped by the red tiger
Who waits on the mainland
For the poor prodigal daughter
To return to the father –
Under the umbrella
We sit idle
By our computers
Waiting for the power to come back on
Waiting for the car to charge
Waiting for our lives to start
And waiting for the alarm clock
To wake us up from this . . . 230712.1
