I SEE YOU NOW
Wonder why
Since you’ve been around the world
Before you met me
I wonder if you
Could let them go
Followers, lovers and dollars
Managers, manipulators and agents
A panoply of sycophants
A dugout of pinch-hitters
But no starters
Until me
And I wonder why
If in fact I know the real you
Why I’m here at the end of your quest
A lover with a wise eye
Who could touch and taste and see and feel and leap
Off the cliff
A hawk
Motionless above the shore
An updraft that defines love
That pulls you up
No matter the solemn score
Those things they like to add up
And subtract from you
As if you only had so much time
And that time was not infinite
As Einstein told me
Down that little alley in Princeton
When he whispered “God”
And I whispered “Yes”
And at that moment, son and mother in view
I said Yes God I see you now
