Spreading the wisdom of India and Tibet

To the Eastern Provinces of China

Far from understanding

Until in the 13th Century

Nalanda and its books are burned.

It is buried, hidden, lost, ignored

Until the 19th Century, a British citizen

Cunningham excavates and finds

The buried jewel of wisdom

With projects for the next 150 years

To excavate, to discover the school

            Such as now a newly built university –

            Nalanda exists

            Like a rediscovered jewel

            Discarded and buried for centuries

            Now producing change in human circumstance

            As though Buddha had seen the future –

            Just wait a thousand years

            And the same truth resurfaces –

            Humility, kindness, clear vision

            Self-reliance,

            Willingness to aid another, --
