HOLDING ITS STARS
A personal matter of survival
The political system does not provide it
Though pretending to be
The essential element
While the family must meet its needs
And survive within and without
A co-operative helpful fair government
Decisions rising upon thin air
With no will of the people to subscribe
Yet all the money is borrowed
And all the treasury notes are fake
Like the news you saw tonight
And the anchor’s smile
When she read the script
And the speech writer for the politician
And the teacher of the grift –
How to fleece America
In ten easy steps –
Get a mouthpiece or ten
Pay them, and then pay them again
Find the emotion of division
Notice flaws of subjective design
Pit one breed of dude against another
Find a religious twist or two
Uncover prejudice under each rap
Dissect the culture –
Find it warped
Like an old L.P. left in the sun
Yet still the best music
As it spins, flopping up and down
Like an old flag
Holding onto its stars
