GLIDING IN
No more easy landings
On the featherbed of life
Gliding in on silver wings
Graceful landing beside the beautiful wife.
House silent with sleeping children
Wind gentle on our souls each night
Encouraging us at dawn.
Today a mixed sky
Sun bursts through finally
Late afternoon, long shadows
Sons grown, making their way.
Messaging to the sky
That we are strong
Each with a will to persist
To live with a sense of joy.
Immense gratitude for the half lifetime
Filled with her spirit of love and commitment
Still echoing through the rooms
Still clear in the garden
Still lovely as she sings
The melodies sweet and distinct
Looking forward
Someone still useful here
A satisfaction of fulfillment
In maintaining stability and optimism
Surrounded by youth and energy
Buoyed by their growth
Confident in their futures
Humble in my role.
Thankful for the Lord’s prayer
