GAZING UP
Speed has returned
Effortless fluid fulfilling
Summer again
As I can now recall and reenact
The flight of joy
Across the beach
Dodging waves
High stepping through surf
To dive into breaking waves
Again the body is used in full
Again I can fly
And to where
After all that has been learned
Am I more than before
Or has time left me behind
To savor and enjoy love
To be here fully alert
As the coyote gazing up
From his snack of windfall apples
To then lope languidly
Belly full
Not so easy coyote slick
Two legs and fine words
Build a life
But may not provide all the answers
For the searching type
Until with a calm façade
And a calmer heart
We accept the failings
Even of the self-imposed sort
Until all sights and sounds
Arrive unconditioned
