“Taxi Driver”
With its 20 great scenes
Compelling, irreducible
Every frame necessary
The taxi itself
Separate, confident.
Has the right to pick up people
Interact, they are paying him.
Perhaps he thinks he is the protagonist
And not the yellow Checker
And it’s license of implied propriety
Which Travis flaunts and violates –
Fundamentally a cynic
Full of jealous hate.
Then to the campaign office –
The blond so naive
As to be smart and stupid
At the same time.
To his “apartment” cell
Where the invidious entity lurks
Awaiting his ascension.
The dreamer meets the gun Merchant –
All the weapons demonstrated.
The vixen, a Yale co-ed. no less,
Flirts as a vocation.
Her eyes say 140 I.Q.
Her body is for sale
And he wants to own something or someone
Before he self-explodes in agony.
The brother, the blood splatters the pimp
In the worst way and then the bloody corpse
Gazing up at God –
Until the victims file out of the theatre to their lyft
