FALL BACK
Fall back on your sense of mercy
Gratitude for good years
Feeling the runaway distractions
That kept you on the move
Searching, finding, fixing, departing
Each venture folded away neatly
Put to a silent drawer
With the next fixation
Flowing down the trail
The next deal to be funded
The next soaring leap
Until every fibre was exhausted
And the right words were found
To share the thrill of life
With the undeterred
Whimsical daughters of plenty
Stroll, device in back pocket
Co-agulated in groups according to width
Hair streaked with highlights
Mouths in constant motion
As their youth sprints by
Sneering and judging as she goes
Then the day comes to fruition
Soft decline of a brilliant sun
Leaving its warmth behind
As we lean into the breeze
One more time
Convinced of our belief in spiritual immortality
Watching the body
As it resists succumbing to fate
Firm in conviction
That it shall extend this temporary destination 201201.1
