ELEVATED EYES
Should the sweetest part of life
Be hidden until the end?
Should we hold on to suffering
As if a loyal friend?
Allowing emotions to break off
The massive fog bank
Of negative thought.
Letting the entrails of mist
Cloud over clarity itself
Rather, seek the mind
Ask it to obey
Try to remind it
That we all must fade away
And that while we are here
We best work together
To leave some betterment
Some aid or assistance
Something given from the heart and mind
A sympathetic ego may suffice
Immersed in focus
On the subtle force
That brings about good
That lights a mother’s smile
That elevates eyes
As they seek the divine
Some pure instinct
That makes us survive
And do it together
For more secure and fulfilling lives
Down on us he showers love
God is the source
Most direct and pure
