Can just let it be
Knowing what love is
From A to Z
Thinking there is no other for me
Because you have lived the book
Acted the parts
Spoken the lines
And absorbed salt drips
Into thirsty cheeks
Saw the brilliance
And witnessed pain
Watched hopelessness creep in
To a joyful smile
And came back to a home
That still had life –
Many decades spread out before them
And realized there was value in mine
You can wait
As long as you want
And no person
Pulls you up.
In fact, they wait themselves
For you to pull them up
Out of their problems
Solve their dilemma
Be one there for them
When things get bleaker
But if you don’t need
Someone to haul you up
If you are sufficient to God
Then the wait stops
And a little lift for another is easy
