THE DUST WE WALK ON
Pre-eminent, self-belief
Requisite to happiness
Whether maimed or gifted
Incarcerated or well-invested
Famous or pure passerby
Beaming to the sun
Or lost in a damp cave
You will follow your confidence
Which fortunately our mind can provide –
Producing self-worth from kind acts
All you need to do
Is carry out a few
Sometimes say yes
Instead of a scowl try a smile
Small movement of the lips
A bit brighter open eyes
The concrete starts to sparkle
Green mist seeps from trees
And as always, the shimmering city
Reflected off a calm bay
Ripples in blue tide
Asking for nothing –
Maybe to be looked at.
Maybe the function of this earth is to
Let us see, touch and hear beauty.
We age, nature stays.
We become the dust we walk on.
Our lives meaningful and simple
Non-injury
Some well-meaning acts
All words carefully executed
Lacking lies and deceit
