DANCING, WITH AN AUDRY HEPBURN SMILE

Caught in the trapped space

Between today and glorious memories.

Acute dimension of recollection

Distorting the current view –

Casting faces in transferred images.

The girl passing takes on an expression

Reminiscent of love gone by.

The mountain trail doesn’t glow

Quite as magically as before

And those ocean waves

Seem tame and predictable

Unlike previous terror

When our tent was suddenly engulfed.

A rogue wave rolled over us

With young love keeping us afloat.

            We came west

Until we ran out of road

Depositing us on a long perfect beach.

The nightly roar of the sea

            Accompanying our laughter and delight.

            Free at last, we thought

            No more tyranny

Lives made

And lives lost.

An emerging soul

Patient, composed

Accepting the cavern

Where love leaves us

When the other is dust

Except for the images

That play on the walls –

Sometimes dancing with an Audrey Hepburn smile                       200513.1
