Harder to hear the truth

And even more difficult to follow

All answers seemingly supplied

Books and costumes and ornaments

Always a special occasion

Preparation, anticipation, participation

All predicting an orderly flow

Talisman and special buildings

Words consecrating the soul

If the body just mouths the words

Or makes the sign

Or follows the special rules

When all you need

Is to hurt no one

By word or action

Be moderate in consumption

While living in inner solitude

And seeking deep levels of awareness

            Pushing off the west coast

            Sail fills

            Following the sun

            Out beyond Farallone

            There to see the inner ocean

            After the continental shelf

            After the body is sloughed off

            A new more permeable skin

            You look down
