BEAUTIFUL ABANDON
The idea of an ending drifts on
Less certain the closer you get
The big notions of success fade.
You lived wisely, set up your accounts
Months roll on
Familiar habits and places re-appear
Stars illuminate a desolate sky
A vivid imagination works overtime
As though we could live forever
If we could just form the vision.
But what would I look like
And who would be there to see?
Perhaps a fashionable man
Wealthy and calm
Seeking no applause or acclaim.
Willing to watch the world spin
Without expecting to tumble
At peace with evolution, society and fate.
One of us alone
The other transcendent –
A polar opposite
While the human form goes on
Trading its sensational thrills
For the desire for an ending.
Refusing to give in to the call.
No endless prayers for salvation –
Just accepting the sense of isolation
As a price for each breath.
Wondering about the air she breathes. –
Is it scented with pine and sea air?
Does she still sing
With such beautiful abandon? 230729.1
