AIN'T LIFE GRAND
Ain't life grand
She used to say
Before the grey bomb
That blew us all away.
So caught up in the moments
So connected to her living spirit
That we hardly really saw her
As a regular human
And just assumed that nothing
Could really change --
After all, there she was --
And she never changed --
The same effervescent smile
That drew you in --
All of us, just lost children
Who heard her voice
And walked right in.
The warmth of May has returned.
The populace unearthed.
Unmasked, searching
Finding others, couples holding hands
As if saying --
"This is our world again"
The plague subsides
The dead dead
The living more alive than ever --
Dancing down the street --
Freed from government rules
Closing down businesses politically
As if showing how "safe" they could make it
In order to clam credit
But with consummate misunderstanding
Of what "safe" means.
